My Little Helpers

On Saturdays, Matt, McKinley, and Gavin have been selling fruit at the farmers markets, so the girls and I have been doing odds and ends at home. This last Saturday I had a box of tomatoes that were ripe and ready to can, and four little hands that wanted to help. I have to admit that I am hesitant when the girls want to help out in the kitchen, because it usually ends up being more work on my part, and fighting on theirs. I decided to put the aprons on and give it a try, and much to my surprise they did a awesome job. They really helped me get through that box of tomatoes in half the time. Thanks girls for all your help.

The State Fair

Gavin's class went on a field trip to the State Fair on Friday and I was able to go with him. By the time that we arrived we had just over 2 hours to see everything. My sister-in-law had told me how great the helping hands exhibit was, so we walked through some of the animals and made our way over to it. At the helping hands you start off by getting your apron and basket. Next you get some corn to feed the cow which in returns gives you some milk for your basket. Then you plant a seed and take your vegetable. Next we learned about sheep and wool, where you took some for your basket. Finally they turned in all that they had collected for a dollar that bought them a snack (fruit snack, cereal, milk, apple, etc) at the store. It was a lot of fun and FREE. Besides the stinky bus ride it was a lot of fun.
